Kaiju No 8 Nendoroids: a Sneak Peak

With 2024 on the horizon, we can expect to see lots of new exciting anime next year. Whether it’s the new second Season of Mashle: Magic and Muscles, Jigokuraku, Chainsaw Man, or even all new series’ like Yozakura Family, there’s certainly a lot to be seen. But perhaps one of the most anticipated upcoming anime in 2024 is Kaiju No. 8. The series has become widely popular; especially since its anime was announced. And with new anime come new nendoroids! This may surprise you, but the Good Smile company has already declared that they will be making 5 characters from Kaiju No 8 as nendoroids! And so, in this post I will introduce everyone to the characters and discuss what their new figures may look like. With that, let’s get started!
Kaiju No 8 is a manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. It is serialized in Shonen Jump+, and is available to read on the Shonen Jump app. Despite being a fairly new story, it has become immensely popular. Kaiju No. 8 is set to get an anime in spring 2024. The story follows a man named Kafka Hibino who works for the defense force, an organization that protects Japan from monstrous beings called Kaiju. However, instead of being on the front lines, Kafka works as part of the crew that deals with the aftermath of Kaiju attacks. One day, Kafka accidentally ate a strange parasite that transforms him into “Kaiju No. 8”. Will this give him the power to fulfill his promise to his childhood friend?
These are the 5 characters whose Nendoroids were announced on the Good Smile company’s Twitter. As of right now, the example designs are blacked out; but we can still get a basic idea of what they’ll look like. I’m going to talk about each of these characters individually starting from the one on left. I can’t wait to discuss the new nendos! I can already see some weapons, so I’m really excited for those!

1: Kafka Hibino
Kafka Hibino is the protagonist of Kaiju No 8. He strives to become part of the defense force in order to fulfill a promise he made. Kafka also transforms into the mysterious “Kaiju No 8” after ingesting a parasite.
From the picture, we can tell that Kafka’s nendoroid will feature him in his human form for certain. But with his kaiju form being so iconic, how come it won’t be getting a nendoroid? I think it’s a good assumption that he will include an extra head part for his kaiju form too. Similar to the Chainsaw Man nendoroid. However, it’s possible that this could work more like the Attack Titan nendo instead. Guessing from the fact that we didn’t get a Kaiju No 8 nendo announced, I think that he’ll include both forms in one. Kafka might only include 2 faces for his human form instead of 3 like usual. We can be sure that he’ll include his gun; and one of his hand parts will be a fist. He could be a very tough Nendoroid! I’m going to guess he’ll come with a serious faceplate like in the picture above. Then I think Kafka should include a surprised faceplate as well. Please keep in mind that all these ideas are just speculations.
2: Reno Ichikawa
Reno Ichikawa works alongside Kafka as a member of the defense force. He is a good friend of Kafka’s and even helped him get into the Defense Force.
We already know that Reno will come with his rifle, as well as the hand parts for holding it. I think Reno’s nendoroid could be very interesting! I’d love to see him in all kinds of sniping poses. I’m quite thrilled to be able to see his new nendo in some scenes with Kafka’s someday too. Reno will most likely include a serious face; and I’m expecting a focused faceplate for sniping. Then he might have…a more casual face of some sort? Either way, since his eyes are purple. I’m sure they’ll turn out great.
3: Kikoru Shinomiya
Kikoru Shinomiya is one of the main characters in Kaiju no 8. She has a strong drive as a member of the Defense Force. Kikoru can be quite confident and even somewhat cocky. Kafka saved her and so she’s grateful to him. She’s actually a really popular character.
My favorite thing that we know so far about Kikoru’s new nendo is definitely her axe. It’s going to be awesome to see her wield it in nendoroid form. I think we will be able to make some amazing combat scenes with her. Her ponytails will probably snap into her head so that you can move them around whichever way you like; which would be super handy for action poses. I bet she’ll come with lots of cool parts in general. My guess is that Kikoru will have a boastful face, a winking face, and a crying face.
4: Mina Ashiro
Mina Ashiro works as the captain of the Defense Force’s third division. She’s a strong fighter and was good friends with Kafka in her childhood.
Mina has a pretty cool appearance doesn’t she? She might actually make a pretty wicked nendoroid figure! It looks to me like Mina will include her oversized gun; which would be awesome to have with her. Again, her ponytail should be able to rotate. I’m really curious to what kind of parts she’ll come with. Honestly, I bet her red eyes are going to look so cool in nendoroid form. I’m thinking Mina will have a serious faceplate, a disapproving faceplate, and a content expression with her eyes closed. I can’t wait to see her and Kafka as nendos someday!
5: Soshiro Hoshina
Soshiro Hoshina is the vice captain of the Defense Force’s third division. Soshiro belongs to a family of swordsman. He is very loyal and enjoys teasing his comrades.
Honestly, I’m excited for this nendoroid in particular just because he has more comic relief than the others. Kaiju No 8 is a very serious story, but it does tend to have many lighthearted moments as well. Soshiro could easily have a fun figure and would be good for making scenes with the other characters. Although he would benefit from a Gen Narumi nendoroid, we’ll just have to wait and see if he eventually gets a figure. I bet that Soshiro will include a serious combat faceplate, a grinning expression, and a happy faceplate with closed eyes. I can’t wait to see all his interactions in Nendoroids form!
