Nendoroid Ruby Hoshino: School Uniform Ver. Review

Oshi No Ko’s second season has had the fans exhilarated these past couple weeks. When Oshi No Ko's first season aired last year, it became a craze in the anime community. The story and the characters have reached many of us, be they big-time anime fans, their friends, or even those who are new to the anime and manga fandom. And with the opening song "Idol" by YOASOBI becoming a worldwide phenomenon, it's hard to escape Oshi No Ko.

I'm a huge fan of the series myself. And as an anime figure hobbyist, I can't resist it when the Good Smile Company transforms these amazing characters into nendoroids. So far, a good number of the key players have become these adorable collectibles. And although Ruby Hoshino already has her B Komachi nendoroid, it's time for her to get one wearing her school uniform as well! She was originally announced at SmileFest 2024, and the Good Smile Company had previously shared a photo of her on their social media.

By the way, Nendoroid Aqua, Nendoroid Kana, and Nendoroid Ruby became available on the Good Smile US store, so I bought all three of them. I had been eagerly waiting for Aqua and Kana to come back out, and they finally did when Ruby became available. I'm so happy…>~< I can't wait for these three to arrive! I'll be sure to write unboxing posts for them here on my blog, and I'll absolutely share photos of them on my Instagram. 

Unfortunately, Ruby's original nendoroid has now sold out on the Goods Smile US store. But I just wanted everyone to know that you can still get Aqua and Kana.

Anyway, let's get to our review!

Oshi No Ko is a manga written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It’s been airing as a TV anime series since spring 2023. The anime can only be watched on HIDIVE however. The story starts with a doctor and his patient who are reincarnated as an idol’s twins. Their mother Ai hides the fact that she has kids as she continues her work as a star. But in an unexpected series of events, she ends up being murdered. Desperate to live up to their mother’s dreams, Aqua and Ruby take on the industry and attempt avenge their mother. Oshi No Ko seems cute at first, but it focuses on the corruption of the popular industry and expresses rather dark themes.

Ruby is the female protagonist and Aqua‘s sister. She strives to bring back the B Komachi idol group.

Ruby is looking stylish in her school uniform, isn’t she? Her eyes are as vibrant as always. Ruby’s school uniform is identical to the one that Kana’s nendoroid wears. I like her smiling faceplate with a V shaped mouth.

Ask her laughing face is so cute! I love her pointing pose too! Why is it the idol girls always have interesting poses?

Ruby Hoshino even includes the Tokyo Blade flyer. I think that Ruby is actually really proud of her brother. Little does she know, he’s actually the her doctor from a previous life.

Her freaked out face is my absolute favorite! This was the expression that I wanted her to come with. Notice how her legs being spread out insinuates her distress? These are things we have to think about during nendography shoots, huh? >_<

It looks like she’s hiding something…

To sum up this review, I thought Ruby Hoshino's new figure was fantastic! While I don't think it's always necessary to have two nendoroids for the same character, Ruby seemed to definitely need one more! In fact, I hope that Kana and MEMcho receive B Komachi versions someday. I love the facial expressions they chose for Ruby as well. They certainly did a brilliant job with her!
