Nendoroid Aqua Hoshino Review

Oshi No Ko is one of my favorite series these days. I’m a huge fan of the art style and I like all the characters. So I get overjoyed when the Good Smile company makes them in nendoroid form! You may have read my previous posts about the Oshi No Ko nendoroids. If you haven’t, you can check it out at the bottom of this page. Anyway, I already talked about the Oshi No Ko nendos when they were first announced. But now, some of them are up for preorder! In this post, I’ll cover Aqua Hoshino’s new nendo! I can’t wait to take a look and review her!

Oshi No Ko is a manga written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It’s been airing as a TV anime series since spring 2023. The anime can only be watched on HIDIVE however. The story starts with a doctor and his patient who are reincarnated as an idol’s twins. Their mother Ai, hides the fact that she has kids as she continues her work as a star. But in an unexpected series of events, she ends up being murdered. Desperate to live up to their mother’s dreams, Aqua and Ruby take on the industry and attempt avenge their mother. Oshi No Ko seems cute at first, but it focuses on the corruption of the popular industry and expresses rather dark themes.

Aqua is the male protagonist; at his mother’s wish, he strives to become an actor. But his secret mission is that he’s searching for the culprit of his mother’s death.

Lucky for me, I was able to get a sneak peak on the Good Smile’s Twitter account. You can see nendoroid models there before they go up for sale. I always guess what their faceplates will be, and this is what I wrote about Aqua’s nendoroid before we got to see the finished design.

“Aqua’s new nendoroid looks so cool! His eyes are amazing aren’t they? I think the job with his eyes turned out exceptionally well. His hair and suit look really nice as well. I can’t wait to see these in color, because Oshi No Ko characters are super colorful.

As of now, we only get one snapshot. I enjoy guessing the other faces, so I’d like to try. Since we get his regular expression face here, I think he’ll have his cool face for sure. I bet the third one will be his more insane looking smile for when he’s on to something.”

And with that, let me show him to everyone!

Aqua comes in his school uniform, just. Like Kana. He looks awesome doesn’t he? I love the eyes… It’s cool how he has a star in his left eye while Ruby has one in her right eye. His hair looks quite nice too doesn’t it? He comes with arm parts for putting his hand on his hip too.

Ooh yes, this is his ‘insane looking’ face like I mentioned earlier. I’m overjoyed that he includes it! Aqua has some wicked facial expressions doesn’t he? This expression is often used when he’s looking for AI’s killer, or trying to prevent Ruby from becoming an idol. Notice how the star in his eye is black instead of white?

Aww, I love this camera! I can already picture him in so many cool scenes with the others.

Aqua’s third faceplate is his smile. He really does look happy here doesn’t he? But keep in mind that Aqua is an excellent actor and could easily fool anyone.

The sign says; ‘B Komachi’, which is Ruby, Kana, and Memcho’s idol group. Aqua includes the glow stick too! Those glow sticks are for waving around in concerts. I loved the scene where he was dancing like crazy as a grown man; that was super fun! Aqua certainly is a great fanboy.

Nendoroid Aqua Hoshino is currently available for preorder on the Good Smile Online shop and the Good Smile US store. Those in the US and Canada will want to get him from the US store; while others can get him from the Online shop. Aqua is expected to release in the third quarter of 2024.
