Why are There No One Piece Nendoroids?
Hi! Welcome to Our Nendoroid Family discussion, as I’m calling it. This is a little different than our usual post, but it should still be fun anyway. Instead of doing an unboxing, or nendoroid review, this post will be more about questions that GSC fans have. Being, a good smile company fan myself, I know that a lot of people are wondering why certain titles don’t get nendos but others do. I thought the name “Our Nendoroid Family discussion” was fitting! By the way, I’m Arashi Bori!
So let’s get to our question for this discussion.
Why are there no One Piece Nendoroids?
You may find it mysterious that titles like Naruto, and Yuyu Hakusho get good smile figures, but one popular series seems to be missing. In fact, some people might think that the variety of One Piece characters would make great nendos. The fandom is certainly large enough to bring in enough buyers for sure. And recently the good smile store released special edition nendos for the theatrical release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Three new nendos were released in celebration of the movie. (Some of which I own) So, naturally as we get closer to the One Piece Film: Red’s premier, you would expect to see similar figures made. And yet we don’t have those. It’s questionable why Naruto and other series have nendos but One Piece is missing. Actually, there are no One Piece figures made by the good smile company.
But the real explanation is quite a simple one…
The good smile company doesn’t have the rights to One Piece. In fact, they are only able to sell most Naruto nendoroids in other countries because of rights. So, the GSC only has international trading rights for Naruto and a few others. But they do not process any of the One Piece rights currently. And I’m sure the good smile company would obtain the license if they could, they would jump on the new craze. Right now, Bandai Namco, has the gaming license. Bio World owns the clothing license. Funko also has wrights. Jimie Palace Studio can do resin statues which will fall into the figure collection vain. Many others as well have or can obtain these rights. Sadly, we probably won’t see One Piece Nendoroids anytime soon. But it isn’t impossible to see them in the future.
Did this answer your question?
Still there are all sorts of amazing One Piece figures out there! Whether they’re products or made by fans! And the One Piece fandom has got bigger lately, so we might see similar models produced. Fans can still make their own nendoroids. By means of various techniques, it is possible to create your very own nendoroids. However, this methods are expensive, time costly, and sometimes difficult. It is something I would like to do in the future. But I can’t say whether or not I will. But if I end up making some One Piece nendos, I’ll share the photos here!
But let’s talk about One Piece Film: Red! It premieres on November 4th, but some theaters have it on November 3rd! In New York, it has already premiered, and even lit up time square! Just like I said about the Jujutsu Kaisen movie, please watch it in theaters while you can!
That’s it for this post! You can find other nendoroid related content here. Thank you so much for continuing to read my blog! Thanks, from Arashi Bori!
